In early 2021, GRG Playscapes was selected through a competitive bidding process to lead a design-build transformation of Next Door’s four outdoor play areas, creating engaging, child-centered environments.
The outdoor space for Next Door’s 4–5-year-olds features an embankment bridge with slide and an ADA-accessible tunnel that leads to a log scramble and climbing net—designed to support the development of gross motor skills. A water play station, complete with limestone boulders for climbing and seating, adds both sensory and physical engagement.
The adjacent 3–4-year-old area invites exploration with a winding trike path that weaves through a charming village of garden beds and playhouses, encouraging imaginative and active play.
Next Door’s new infant and toddler spaces transformed previously inactive corners of the property into vibrant destinations for early childhood exploration. Designed to engage all ages, the natural playscapes feature a mix of music and sand play, mud kitchens, imaginative elements, play houses, log balance courses, loose parts, and gently sloping landscaping.
Next Door appreciated GRG’s collaborative approach and has since partnered with the firm on two additional projects at their Capitol Drive location.
